Jason Kidd Celebrates His Knicks Deal With A DWI

[USA Today]  Jason Kidd made surprising headlines with his decision to join the New York Knicks as a free agent. Now he’s making surprising headlines for the wrong things off the court. The 10-time All-Star point guard, who signed his 3-year, $9.5 million contract with the Knicks on Thursday, was arrested early Sunday morning for alleged drunken driving, according to Southampton Town police. Kidd, 39, was arraigned on a misdemeanor DWI charge and released on his own. Police said Kidd’s 2010 Cadillac Escalade struck a telephone pole and went into the woods near the intersection of Cobb road and Little Cobb Road in Water Mill. Kidd’s house in the Hamptons was nearby. Kidd was the lone passenger in the accident, which reportedly took place around 2 a.m. Kidd was transported to the Southampton Hospital to attend to minor injuries before dealing with the police. “We await further discovery from the district attorney’s office,” Sag Harbor attorney Eddie Burke Jr. said. Kidd has faced trouble with the law before. He was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty for a domestic violence charge in January of 2001.

This shit always blows my mind.  How hard is it to pay some random dude $50-100k a year out of your multi-million dollar bank account to be on call as your driver whenever you’re gonna go out boozing?  Or just get your agent, publicist or whoever to get a car service for the night?  Listen, J Kidd, I’m glad the Knicks got you on the cheap and you’re obviously having a great time in New York…but there’s some trouble that’s easily avoidable.  Sometimes you have no choice but to smack your wife around – I get that.  Not getting a lift at 2am when you’re 10 Alizes deep, however, is inexcusable.

The fucked up thing is the NBA and the NFL both have a league driver service. These bros can call from anywhere at any time and cop a ride, paid for by the league. With that said, very unlike the Kidd on this one.
